I'm a web enthousiast, programmer, ex entrepreneur and former teacher. I like to write, sport and cycle to work.People call me Mies for as long as I can remember, which online became m1es at some point. I try to collect my tech related endeavours on m1es.net.
I'm a programmer at ReMark, where I'm leading the back-end team in our Rotterdam office. We're developing various applications in the insurance domain, all backed by the lovely Ruby on Rails framework. I collect interesting reads about software development in a newsletter.
I spend a good 15 years as co-owner of Ivaldi, a digital web agency in Rotterdam. I called myself a front-end developer at the start and felt more like a back-ender in the end. I grew from student to father. Great times.
In my time as computer science teacher I developed teaching materials to learn kids how to program. The great thing about programming is that the basic concepts don't change. Altough not everybody might be able to run the required software anymore, I'll keep the sites online for those who can or find inspiration in the example programs.
